Allison nodded in agreement and walked over to the window. She stood still for a moment then her voice drifted over her shoulder."Morgan, look, he laid out my book and pen and everything for me here on the sill!" Morgan stepped up behind Allison and chuckled.
"Apparently they want you to feel at home, Allison." Morgan frowned as she heard the young woman take a shaky breath and turned her around. Allison looked up at her with teary eyes and Morgan pulled her into her arms. "What’s wrong?" she asked softly. The young woman burrowed into her embrace and shook her head.
"I can’t believe he had them do something so sweet," Allison’s muffled voice said. Morgan chuckled softly and looked back over her shoulder.
"I have the feeling Isabelle was instrumental in all of this. George would have taken care of the room and so on, but making it more comfortable, well, I wouldn’t be surprised if Isabelle sent someone on ahead of us as soon as she heard where we were headed and had them arrange this." Morgan leaned back and tilted Allison’s chin up, making her meet her eyes. "You ready to try to get some rest?" Allison nodded and wiped at her eyes. Morgan reached behind her and pulled the curtains shut. Allison walked over to her trunk and opened it, tossing her dress shoes into it, followed by her gloves. Morgan tossed her jacket over her trunk and dropped her belt into it, then untucked her shirt before walking over to rub Allison soothingly on the back. The young woman looked back over her shoulder, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"Shall I help you out of all these layers?" Morgan said softly. A delicate blush touched Allison’s cheeks and she nodded. Morgan carefully worked at the pearl buttons until the dress finally slipped down over the gentle curve of Allison’s hips. Frowning, she plucked at the corset laces. "Your laces are all knotted up, Allison," she said softly, smiling as she felt her laugh. Finally the knot gave way and the corset let loose, Allison sighing in relief as it did. Morgan started to turn away when Allison reached back and stopped her with a hand on her wrist. Morgan cocked an eyebrow at her, her curiosity peeking as the younger blushed feverishly.
"Can I…would…oh…never mind," Allison stammered, spinning around quickly, even her ears turning red. Morgan frowned for a moment as Allison started pawing through one of her trunks before finally realizing what Allison wanted. She walked over to her trunk and found the shirt that the younger woman had been wearing and walked back over to Allison where she was pulling her corset off. Morgan lifted it up and dropped it down over Allison’s head, chuckling as the redhead tugged it down off her head and smiled at her in delight. Morgan grinned back at the younger woman then headed back across the room to get into a more comfortable shirt herself. She sighed in relief as she pulled her favorite one over her head, glad to be out of the formal wear. Allison was already changed and was turning down the lamps on the other side of the room. Morgan opened the curtains back up and leaned against the side of the window, looking down at her ship. She watched as a tall figure that could only be Jacob strode up the gangplank and pulled it up behind him. Beyond the ship she could see the barricaded shipyard and nodded to herself in approval of the room’s view. Turning down the lamp on the windowsill Morgan turned to find Allison already in bed, lying on her side with her back to the wall, watching her sleepily. Morgan pondered briefly sleeping on the floor, then dismissed it, knowing that the redhead would never tolerate it. She walked over and threw the bolt on the door to reinforce the main lock, then walked back to the bed.
Moonlight streamed in the window outlining the woman waiting for her in silver, and Morgan smiled as Allison pulled the blanket back for her. She sat on the edge of the bed and slid her legs under the quilt, a sigh escaping her lips as she felt the welcome presence of a feather mattress. Allison laughed softly in the darkness.
"I thought I’d let it surprise you." Morgan chuckled.
"Then this was definitely Isabelle’s work. She knows my fondness for sleeping on feathers." Morgan laid back and let her body melt into the bed. Her eyes drifted shut immediately, and despite her attempts she couldn’t get them to open back up. Admitting defeat she yawned.
"Sleep well, Allison," she said softly.
"You too, Morgan," came the soft reply. Morgan drifted along, her mind still whirling from the events of the day. She heard Allison’s breathing even out and deepen and wished fervently that she could fall asleep. She tried to shove the thoughts aside and found herself unable to, her thoughts running over Carolyn’s betrayal over and over. Her body tensed up and she heaved a heavy sigh. Allison murmured softly in her sleep and Morgan felt her shift a little. Morgan opened her eyes and stared up at the moonlight beams of the ceiling and tucked her hands under her head, unable to ignore the thoughts wracking her brain. She found herself sighing again, this time her sigh echoed by the sleeping Allison. The young woman stretched in her sleep and rolled over onto her back, their shoulders and legs just touching. Morgan felt her body tense up more, but for a different reason this time as she became all to aware of the soft skin of Allison’s leg where it rested against her, and her heartbeat picked up pace. Allison groaned in her sleep and the younger woman’s arm twitched next to hers and Morgan frowned. Morgan pulled her hand out from under her head and touched Allison’s arm softly, rubbing it gently with her fingers. Allison sighed softly and her twitching calmed. The captain tucked her hand back behind her head and shifted away from a hard spot on the bed, moving closer to the center of the bed. Allison murmured something unintelligible and rolled over, draping herself across Morgan’s body. The older woman laughed softly as Allison’s fingers tickled her ribcage, then found herself relaxing as Allison sank against her. Her eyes drifted shut again and she smiled to herself as her mind finally slowed down. She leaned her head against Allison’s and exhaled deeply, thankfully drifting off into slumber.
Allison blinked her eyes against the early morning light and buried her face in her pillow. Stretching her arm out across the bed she yawned, finally opening her eyes and looking around their new room. The other side of the bed was empty, the mattress still holding remnants of the warmth of Morgan’s body. Allison sat up in the middle of the bed and pulled the quilt around her, wondering where the captain went so early in the morning. Sighing softly she pulled her hair over her shoulder and started unwinding the braid she wound it in the night before, running her fingers through it and slowly working at the tangles at the end. Morgan had apparently rekindled the fire and the chill in the room started to dissipate. Allison climbed out of the bed and walked over to the window, watching as men started to work the docks down below. Sitting down in the chair in front of the window she tucked her feet under her and wrapped her arms around herself. She leaned her head against the back of the chair and watched the small fishing ships moving around in the harbor, waiting for Morgan to return.
"Allison….Allison…wake up." Allison blinked as someone nudged her gently, opening her eyes to find a pair of amused blue ones twinkling at her. "Morning, sleepy." She smiled through a yawn and stretched.
"Morning…where did you go?" Allison asked, glancing out the window to find the sun sparkling on the waves. Morgan chuckled and pointed at the table against the wall.
"I checked with the shipyard and Jacob, then stopped by the bakery and picked us up some fresh bread for breakfast." Allison’s eyes brightened as she peeked over the back of the chair at the table. Morgan reached for her hand, pulled her to her feet, and shoved her teasingly towards the table. "Come on, you must be starving." Morgan pulled out a chair for her then sat opposite her, reaching into the basket that she had brought to pull out a couple of rolls. Allison took one from her and exclaimed as the bread steamed when she broke it. Morgan smiled and tore her own open, biting into it with relish. Allison was pleasantly surprised to find out that Morgan had brought back quite a variety of breads, as well as some more fruits. They ate in silence for a while, before Morgan finally spoke up.
"I’m going to have to go down and help Jacob for a while today, Allison, but I’ll be back for lunch, and then for dinner. I know you’re going to go nuts being cooped up, but I’m going to have to ask you to stay in the room.
