Walk with me. If you’re going to laugh at me the least you can do is keep me company." As she pushed away from the wall Jacob fell in step beside her, still laughing under his breath. They moved away from the docks and into the shop district, glancing at the goods for sale as they walked along. They talked idly for a while, Morgan finally stopping to browse through some items that caught her eye. Jacob went still for a moment, then nonchalantly picked up a knife and examined it.

"Did ya know ya were being followed, Mor?’ He said softly, tilting the knife towards her as if to ask her opinion. Taking it in her hand she nodded.

"Mmm….yes. Thought I lost him at lunch though. Must be Carolyn’s trying to keep tabs on me again." Jacob frowned and took the knife back from her, then picked up another.

"Mor, I don’ like that woman. She causes nothin’ but trouble." Morgan chuckled softly.

"I know…I know. But my involvement with her isn’t going to change right now, Jacob. Especially not as long as Allison is still here." Jacob shot her a questioning look. Avoiding meeting his eyes she selected a couple of items and carried them to the shopkeeper, motioning to him to wrap them up. Handing the man a couple of silver coins she accepted the packages then slowly moved away.

"She gets to me, Jacob. I don’t know what it is, but she does. If I stop going to see Carolyn I’m afraid I’d…," Morgan drifted off and looked up at Jacob to see if he understood what she was trying to say. Seeing him nod in sympathy she put a hand on his arm to stop him. "I have one more thing that I have to do, Jacob. Do me a favor and take these to the hotel and give them to Allison?" Jacob took the packages and looked at her curiously, then nodded.

"Sure, Mor’. Probably ought to check on ta gal anyhow." She clapped him on the back and quickly moved off into the crowd as Jacob moved off in the other direction. Her shadow’s moment of hesitation allowed her to slip out of sight, and she darted down an alleyway and onto a different street, grateful to be free of Carolyn’s spy for the time being. Her destination set she made quick time through the meandering streets, the small shop that was her goal soon visible. Smiling to herself she slipped in the door, taking a deep breath as the smell of leather and crisp new paper filled the air.

Morgan strolled up the street to the hotel, smiling to herself as she examined the small package that she carried. She took the steps up to the foyer two at a time, almost skidding to a halt as Carolyn swung out to block her path through the door. She stepped back and cocked an eyebrow at the glowering woman.

"Yes, Carolyn?" Morgan found herself looking down into angry eyes as Carolyn stepped close to her.

"Where have you been all day?" she hissed, darting a glance over her shoulder to make sure no one was close enough to hear them. Morgan smiled sweetly down at her lover.

"Well, dear, didn’t your thug come back and tell you? He tailed me most of the day" Carolyn snapped her jaws shut with an audible click on whatever she had planned to say. "Is there something else you need from me? I’d like to have some dinner." Carolyn’s eyes blazed up at her in anger while she pasted a false smile on her face as a customer walked up the stairs and past them into the building. Morgan grinned and leaned down to capture Carolyn’s lips in a long kiss. As she pulled back slowly the blonde’s eyes flickered open and blinked at her, no longer quite so angry and the smile Morgan had directed at her was a bit less nasty. "I’ll see you tonight, gorgeous?" Morgan asked.

"Mmm…yes. Tonight, captain. And you will do a bit of explaining then?" Morgan quirked an eyebrow at her and nodded a little before she walked away. Carolyn swept away in the other direction, leaving Morgan in a swish of skirts. The desk attendant hid a smile as Morgan turned to him and she grinned mischievously at him.

"Afternoon, Captain," he said, bowing his head slightly. "Shall I have dinner sent to your room again this evening?" Morgan nodded.

"Please…oh…and send some flowers up with it…and…hmmm…." Morgan frowned to herself in thought.

"Perhaps some chocolate, Captain?" Morgan looked at the man in surprise and nodded.

"Yes, that would be perfect." She turned to walk away and turned back as the man cleared his throat.

"Shall I keep this…discreet.., Captain?" Morgan cocked an eyebrow at him for a moment, then glanced over her shoulder in the direction Carolyn had left. Looking back at him, she nodded slowly.

"That would be a good idea. You’ll take care of the arrangements yourself?" she asked, dropping a gold coin onto the ledger in front of him. He nodded and as the coin disappeared she smiled. "Your help is greatly appreciated." Morgan left the man to take care of dinner and walked briskly up the stairs. Stopping briefly before entering her room she forced the smile off her face, then turned the handle and stepped into the room. Allison was standing at the window looking down at the street, the setting sun silhouetting her curves perfectly. The younger woman glanced over her shoulder but her features were cast into shadow. Morgan pushed the door shut behind her and moved deeper into the room, wishing she could see the expression on Allison’s face. She stood in the middle of the room and cocked her head.

"Allison?" she said softly. The other woman turned around and moved closer to her, a small smile tickling at the corner of her lips.

"You’ve been busy today, Captain," she stated. Morgan shrugged a little. The redhead nodded towards the bed where a couple of packages lay unwrapped then moved over to hug Morgan. Morgan started in surprise then wrapped her arms around Allison and hugged her back. "Thank you so much for the gifts." Allison’s muffled voice drifted up from her shoulder. Morgan smiled.

"You’re quite welcome. I hoped you would like them. Maybe they’ll help relieve the monotony of the days?" Allison pulled back and nodded up at her, a happy smile curving her lips. Morgan reluctantly pulled her hands away from Allison’s waist and stepped back, lifting the package in her hand up and offering it to her. A curious look crossed Allison’s face as she took the package, moving over to the chair to sit down and open it. Morgan watched with baited breath as she carefully untied the cord and pulled the paper away.
