Paramore was what Jen listened to when she was upset, not the only thing but this time it was what she listened to. Their music has such strong feelings and raw emotion.

All Jen could listen to was Paramore’s song That’s What You Get.

No sir, well I don't wanna be the blame, not anymore
It's your turn, so take a seat we're settling the final score
And why do we like to hurt, so much?

I can't decide
You have made it harder just to go on
And why, all the possibilities where I was wrong

That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

I wonder, how am I supposed to feel when you're not here
Cause I burned every bridge I ever built when you were here
I still try holding onto silly things, I never learn
Oh why, all the possibilities I'm sure you've heard

That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating (beating)
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

Hey, make your way to me, to me
And I'll always be just so inviting
If I ever start to think straight
This heart will start a riot in me
Let's start, start, hey!

Why do we like to hurt so much?
Oh why do we like to hurt so much?

That's what you get when you let your heart win!
Whoa

That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

Now I can't trust myself with anything but this
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

It had been a couple days since she broke up with Lauren. She hadn’t called Peyton as she promised and when people called she ignored the phone calls. She went to school a hollow version of herself. She didn’t try to look like her heart was broken. She didn’t care about the rumors circulating or who knew that hottest lesbian couple at school had broken up.

She went to practice every morning and workouts every afternoon. She played her heart out; she played the best she had in awhile. But on the bench, in the locker room, and in the weight room she didn’t talk to anyone or acknowledge their presence.  They all knew she was hurting and tried to reach out to her none of them succeeding. Their lives went on they cared about their teammate, and friend but they knew only time could help.

When she was home Jen lounged around flipping aimlessly through the channels on T.V never settling on one for more then a minute or two. She was call cried out but the pain still was inside her. She wanted to get over this. After all she was the one who broke up with Lauren. But it wasn’t an easy decision and she’s still not sure that it was the right decision. Sleep was a thing of the past she tossed and she turned. When she did sleep she awoke worried and panicked as if something had happened. She tried to pick up a couple books, she tried writing nothing felt right.

Scottie and Cory both tried to get into her bubble after the first couple tries they gave up. It broke their hearts as parents to see her hurting so much. They got used to eating dinner without her, looking at a shell of who she once was.

After a week of Jen being heartbroken and hallow almost everyone had enough of it. They still felt bad but they all wanted the real Jen back. Several of her teammates approached Cory and workout sessions or stopped by the house to talk to Scottie about Jen. Peyton phoned every night and always ended up talking to Cory and Scottie instead of who she really wanted to talk to; Jen.

Cory and Scottie tried sending their daughter to a counselor after all they are trained to talk to people. They didn’t want her to necessarily get over the break up but have someone to talk to about it. Jen just sat there as the counselor talked not answering any questions.

The Sunday after Peyton had had enough. She knew this had something to do with her and was tired of seeing Jen this way. She needed her friend, the teammates wanted more then just an amazing player on the court and Jen’s parents wanted to be a family again. Peyton went over to the Miller-Hill house knocking on the door. Scottie answered.

“Hey, Peyton. Jen’s not really up for visitors yet.”

“That’s okay just wanted to see her she doesn’t have to talk, I just want to talk to her.”

“Okay, but I wouldn’t expect anything great to come from her in terms of advice or anything right now. She’s upstairs in her bedroom.”

Scottie closed the door behind Peyton as she headed upstairs knocking on Jen’s door walking in shortly after. Jen was sitting on the couch curled up in PJ pants and a sweat shirt.

“Jen, snap out of this. We all know you’re hurting but honestly you’re hurting the rest of us. Lauren isn’t this bad and you’re the one who broke up with her.”

“I know; this is all your fault though you realize that. I’m allowed to be upset. I’m so fucking confused. I don’t think you have a right to come in here and tell me to snap out of this. Honestly we’ve been friends for what 1 week and a half? Not even cuz I haven’t talked to you in over a week. Just leave me alone. Why can’t people understand I just want space right now? You got in here and I’m sure you know how to leave... incase you want help there’s the door.” Nearly screaming, Jen pointed the door. Letting people in was hard and scary for her she didn’t like the feeling of vulnerability especially in front of people she wasn’t close with.

“I’m not leaving. Not until you realize it’s not my fault. Maybe I was just the one who helped you realize something you already knew, you and Lauren were having problems and you weren’t in love anymore. Maybe you weren’t in love at all but you were save, secure and comfortable in that relationship and now that it’s gone you don’t know how to get the feeling in your life anymore without feeling the pain in your heart. She was your first major relationship so sorry to break it to you but you’ll never get the exact feeling back. Nothing is like your first only one feeling can top that and it’s being with the person you’re going to be with forever.”

“And how do you know? Are you the queen of relationships or something? I don’t see you married or even with anyone for that matter.”

“Because I’ve had a first and many in between and a wise person once told me when I’m with the one I’ll know it and that’ll be more forever person. I’m not with anyone right now because the girl I want to be with needs to get her act together and stop mopping I don’t want anything serious right now. I’m not even asking for a relationship from her maybe just a couple dates and friendship. I’m not looking to be her rebound; I’m just looking to get a chance.” With that Peyton leaned in pulling Jen towards her kissing her passionately. “I’m not saying this will work out or that I’m positive I’m bisexual maybe it’s just that I like you. I don’t know and there’s a lot I have to figure out but I’m just looking for a chance, a tiny shot, that’s all nothing more nothing less.”

Jen took Peyton into her hands kissing her. “Lets just go slow. Just a couple dates nothing big, and nothing public. I don’t want to hurt Lauren. And the sooner it goes public the faster this will probably go, that’s the way it always works.”

            “I just have one condition.”

“You beg me to give you a shot and now you have a condition? Lets hear it.”

“Unless you’re working out or sleeping no more sweat pants and stuff. Be yourself again. Get out of this funk and be the Jen I met and started to like.”

            “Fine.”

“Are you two coming down for dinner?” Scotties voice yelled from downstairs.

“Wow, it’s already dinner time, time flies.”

“Did you honestly say one of the most cliché things in the world? Peyton if you want this to go anywhere you’ll never say that again.” Jen said jokingly getting up holding Peyton’s hand as they walked down the stairs.

“Well, well, well look at the hot new couple and oh my god I think I may have a heart attack a smile on Jen’s face. Oh how I’ve missed it.
